I'd love to see that blog post!

It's great that you've found your VC meetings to be thoughtful and helpful. I'd love to chat with you about that, because i've talked to other entrepreneurs who also felt like I did -- that VCs were, for the most part, quite distant and devoid of feedback. Perhaps there is something in the way you engage people that cuts through and connects.

Regarding your question about "did you take the money", well, yes we did raise two rounds of VC, but we based our decisions primarily on the partner, not the firm. We wanted a board composed of people who understood the business and believed in the team, so it worked out very well. I should clarify that the example I quoted from my post was NOT any of the firms we actually went with.

I too have been in some VC meetings that looked like that. One, in fact, was so bizarre I should immortalize it in a blog post. It was beyond hilarious.

For me, out of dozens and dozens of VC meetings, I found this type of distracted engagement you describe to be the rarity. Maybe I was lucky, but the vast majority of my VC meetings were thoughtful, respectful, and engaging. They started on time. There were no rude wandering outs. There was a lot of really engaging dialog, thoughtful advice, and brainstorming.

Your post was thought-provoking. Did you take the money? I have to admit, it would have given me pause. What would I have done in that situation? I think I might turn down the money. A dysfunctional and disrespectful partner meeting feels distinctly like an early indicator of future pain. Especially since I have been in plenty of other VC meetings, with partners who are just as busy and just as experienced, and have not had to endure that behavior.

If you want to read them, you need to bring another salesperson to the pitch just like with any other high-level exec prospect. One to talk; one to read.
